Nortel is generally acknowledged to be just ahead of Lucent in the race to develop the near-mythical all-optical network, but it has consistently stated that 60% of carriers have legacy issues to address before making the transition that many expect is at least 5 years away. "Edge of the network" probably refers to the cutting-edge IP-based networks being developed by the 40% of carriers without any legacy issues -- carriers like Qwest, Enron, Global Crossing, etc.

I wonder why ERICY didn't go to California to be closer to Qualcomm? Hmmm. If I remember right BUX thought it was odd that Nokia and IDC were so far apart.

Maybe some companies think about taxes, cost of property and cost of living?
