Does CSCO really have $15 billion in cash? That doesn't look right to me. Yahoo alternately suggests

$4 billion (along with this quarter that would make it $5 billion) or

$0.53/share * 3.4b shares = $1.8 billion (+$1 billion for $2.8 billion).

Either way, that's miles from that $15 billion cash figure. Which is a pretty fundamental difference. Is there more I'm not aware of?

CSCO's valuation gain just for today is $24 BILLION, which is 20% higher than all of COMS. And take out COMS's cash and investments (I don't know how much CSCO has in investments, it'd be nice to know), and CSCO has increased its market cap this morning by 1.5 TIMES COMS.

To me, no matter how beautiful CSCO is, this is tulip mania. I just hope it holds long enough for us to get a similar story for PALM. I'm thinking it will.

Gary,

It's amazing that a huge company like Cisco can grow at 40%, but it's even more amazing that such a company has a 100+ PE.

How much longer do you think Cisco can maintain its 40% growth rate? 2 years, 3 years, 5 years?

I was at a swing class last night, and one of the girls there was a Cisco engineer. I mentioned that CSCO had run up a lot in after market. She told me to buy the stock before the split. I told her that I was buying 3Com for the Palm spin off. She told me that Cisco will kill 3Com.

Though I agree with her the Cisco will kill 3Com, but that doesn't mean CSCO is a buy at any price. In comparison, COMS is a better investment at this point. Wouldn't you agree?
