Deutch Security Clearances Eyed

By DAVID BRISCOE Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former CIA director John Deutch, already cut off from the spy agency's secrets, is waiting to learn whether he also will lose security clearances that now allow him to work in the Pentagon.

Defense Secretary William Cohen acknowledged Monday that Deutch, still has some Pentagon security clearances, despite losing clearances from the CIA last summer for downloading classified documents into his home computer.

After weekend news reports about Deutch's continued access to classified defense information, the Pentagon's inspector general asked the CIA for its evidence on Deutch's security breaches, Cohen told reporters. ``I think it should have been done sooner, but it was not,' he said.

It's a classic in the sense that, just as Al Capone got jailed officially because he cheated the IRS (nobody could ever prove him guilty of a single murder!), Megamole Deutch's been put in the hotseat allegedly because he fiddled about with porn-sites while flicking through classified CIA/Pentagon files....ROFL! I suggest that both him and Miss Lewinsky take a vacation trip to Tel-Aviv --they sure deserve a rest.

George, this is getting to be much, much more stupid than even this thread envisioned...

Moscow Threatens To Pull
Peacekeepers Out Of Kosovo

MOSCOW, Feb 9, 2000 -- (Agence France
Presse) Moscow made a new threat to withdraw its
troops from peacekeeping duties in Kosovo
Tuesday, and demanded that NATO commanders
and the UN administration in the province take steps
to protect ethnic minorities.

Moscow said it was particularly concerned about
events in the ethnically divided town of Kosovska
Mitrovica in the north of the province, where clashes
last week between Serbs and ethnic Albanians left at
least eight people dead and forced 550 people to flee
their homes, according to KFOR, the NATO-led
peacekeeping force.

The head of Russia's security committee, Sergei Ivanov, said in a statement to
the military information agency AVN that KFOR and the United Nations
Mission to Kosovo (UNMIK) had failed to put in place the UN Security
Council resolution guaranteeing the safety of all inhabitants of the province.

"The change in the humanitarian situation in Kosovo could force Russia to
re-examine its participation in the peacekeeping operation and the Atlantic
alliance would be responsible for the situation thereafter," Ivanov said, quoted
by AVN.

The Russian foreign ministry called on Kosovo's community leaders to
demonstrate tolerance and called on the international forces in the province to
"immediately ensure the safety of ethnic minorities," the news agency
ITAR-TASS reported. ((c) 2000 Agence France Presse)
