Hi tg - in a way, you are right that there is a lot of vendor financing going on. Or, if you will, more like venture capital investment a la CDO.

CLFY may be a technology purchase up front, but what is the strategic follow through? That is the question. Another case in point, when NT bought BAY, it was b/c NT wanted to enter into the datanetworking arena. However, NT was not simply being a reseller of the then BAY products, even though they were good products in their own right. Rather, they are part of the puzzle. Putting 1 and 1 together is more than just a disjoined 2.

From the business perspective, even the big three are aware of the lumpiness of technology sales, even if they have such a depth and breadth of products. Therefore, it is imperative to also secure a steady stream of revenues. This is actually pioneered by some of the hottest internut companies. Look at OMKT, who is a grand daddy, but only recently it got the recognition after it changed its business model in revenue sharing.

best, Bosco
