US Interactive Offers Comprehensive Security Practice Through Newly Established Advanced e-Engineering Group
Security Group Works With Clients to Build Privacy, Confidentiality, Identity, Authenticity, and Non-Repudiation into Systems at Project Inception. Group also Offers Security Assessments.
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Interactive, Inc., (Nasdaq: USIT) a leading Internet professional services company, today announces the formation of a specialized security practice offered under the Advanced e-Engineering Group. This practice was designed to address the business and technology issues associated with the convergence of IP networking, security, and distributed applications with a focus on high availability, performance and time-to-market compression for e-business solutions. The Advanced e-Engineering Group was recently formed to provide US Interactive clients the strategic knowledge and expertise needed to leverage leading-edge technologies and processes for e-business initiatives for competitive advantage. Working closely with US Interactive global staff, clients and strategic partners, the Security Team ensures that a broad spectrum of security needs are addressed in US Interactive's e-solutions for clients from design to operational status. The team also conducts security assessments and certain forms of attack and penetration testing. While US Interactive has always offered security services, the formal practice is in response to the growing needs of clients and the Internet industry. This practice fits into US Interactive's strategic and innovative e-Roadmap(R) development plan fusing technology, business and marketing services, as well as infrastructure and operational foundation into one offering. "As we work with clients on second- and third-generation e-business solutions, these high performance security issues remain an important consideration," says Eric Pulier, chairman and co-founder, US Interactive. "e- businesses require comprehensive security, to protect privacy and secure consumers from external and internal forces. Many security breaches are by current and former employees against their employers, so steps need to be taken to secure internal sites and information as well." The Security Team currently consists of software engineering and security technology professionals who are fully complemented by US Interactive's worldwide professional staff. The Security Team has worked with customers in the cable, telecommunications, multimedia, financial services and high technology industries. Some examples of specific security projects include: Design and implementation of security protocols for a secure messaging company, security assessments for large telecommunications, cable and insurance companies, design of secure, fail-over networks, and implementation of "Virtual Private Networks." Most recently, the Security Team identified a serious compromise in a major retailer's e-business due to a bug in their third party e-commerce software. The Security Team worked with the third party software provider to develop and rapidly deploy a solution. According to Ajit M. Prabhu, senior vice president and chief technology officer, US Interactive, "The best approach to security is to build it into the system at design time. That is our approach. It's not just about credit card numbers being stolen. Security breaches can cause loss of critical business information or unplanned downtime through denial of service attacks. This is a discipline that must be a key ingredient of any Internet system deployment today." "Security in cyberspace is not just about encryption and hackers," says Todd J. Mitty, Ph.D., vice president and general manager. "Security extends to privacy, confidentiality, identity, authenticity, and non-repudiation. Improperly addressing these issues places a business' operations, assets, and reputation at significant risk. The Security Team and Advanced e-Engineering Group are well seasoned in developing pragmatic solutions to these complex, business sensitive needs."
