"What sell signal. Please clarify."

Around the time that semi equip stocks were peaking in 1995, there were similar pronouncements that the industry was no longer cyclical, so people have talked about such statements as a possible sell signal.

The note I was responding to said:

"An excerpt from the iWSJ:

Semiconductor Industry Group
Sees End to Boom-and-Bust Cycle"

The last time responsible analysts declared an end to boom-and-bust cycles was near the 1995 peak. That would have been an excellent time to sell. I'm implying that this most recent pronouncement is also a sign of an impending peak.

The comment is a bit tongue-in-cheek, since I think equipment and chip sales are likely to continue to improve over the next few months. But market action did lead sales on the upside, and may do so on the downside as well.
