Modi Telstra is looking for tie ups with Internet service providers (ISPs) for their data services.

R Mahesh, general manager -- marketing, said the tie-ups would depend on the value added services offered by the ISPs rather than mere connectivity.

"Ideally, we would look at tying up with a basket of ISPs and not just one, so that the customer has a wider array of choices," said Tapas Das, head of brand marketing.

The company is endeavouring to play a leading role in the "connected society".

Keeping in mind the imminent convergence of information technology and communication, the company has plans to develop products with advanced technology in those lines.

"Maybe we will start receiving e-mails on cell phones," said Das.
However, the services will be provided only to the post-paid customers.
The company plans to launch the first product next month.

Modi also has plans to enlarge the scope of transactions on their website by adding to the infolinks.

The company offers the lowest rates in the country for their data services at Re 0.60 per minute during the off-peak hours.

"We are on the growth phase now and have a lot of plans for 2000," said Mahesh.

The company boasts of an over 75 per cent market share in the corporate sector.

Modi Telstra Cashcards currently enjoys a market share of over 90 per cent in the Calcutta market.

As a measure to jack up brand visibility Modi is also launching "Sourav Week" starting February 11 to 18.

'Quiz with Sourav', 'Sourav on the spot', 'Chat with Sourav' and 'Dinner with Sourav', are some of the features of this promotion.

The company believes increased brand visibility will reflect in increased awareness and more trails will follow. But only Modi Telstra customers can avail of this.

"Our main aim through this promotion is to inform all about the benefits and convenience of our Cashcards," said Mahesh.
