RE So you are relying on other peoples writing/articles (journalists generally know less than most - they just regurgitate a whole lot of what they have been told)? To make such bold statements I would have thought you may have checked it out personally.

Just what is your problem with my statement that nobody has a commercially available blue semiconductor laser? If you think one exists, go ahead and post a URL, an article, a rumor, anything.

The longest-lived blue laser I've heard of was made in Nachia's lab. It lasted 35 hours, which is quite an achievement. To make a commercial laser they need about 10,000 hours lifetime, and it has to be manufacturable in quantity.

Yes, yes. I plead guilty to believing what I read in EE Times and Science Magazine. Shame on me.

Of course you're right. I should have hopped on a plane and flew to Japan to "check it out personally". I'll do that tomorrow. Right after I learn Japanese tonight.

In the meanwhile, feel free to disregard everything I write on this board. If you want to believe that CREE (or someone else) has a commercial blue laser, but is hiding it from the press -- feel free to invest on that premiss.
