Ice:

As we both know, the 64s were selling cheerfully at just under $4.00 late last summer. Then, the crazies running the box builder plants convinced themselves that their semi suppliers might not be ready for Y2K (an incredibly dumb idea, which shows the power of "herd-think"), so they double and triple ordered, which jammed the prices up to the $15 territory. It sure makes sense to me that the prices would drop back down below last summer's lows, due to the fact that lots of semis ended up in inventory. The fact that 128 Mbit and 256 Mbit chips are now being shipped also suggests that semi prices must slide.

When I last checked (a week or two ago), contacts told me that the 64s were falling through $6.50. I'll know more shortly.

Best, Earlie
