Steve ,
I thought yesterday you were considering shorting SUNW at 85 or so and buying Intel. Hope you did not execute that strategy.

Your veiws with respect to SUN's prospects have been out there for a long time. With the evolution of the Net there are fewer and fewer takers of that view. McNealy stuck his head out at a time when the Wintel duopoly was far more dominant than it is today, and SUN is reaping the benefits of his vision. The PC businesses of IBM Dell CPQ and HWP along with numerous other discount sellers of PCs have been screwed from both sides (MSFT/INTC on one hand) and price conscious customers on the other.

I don't make intend to make a believer out of you (or anyone) - nor I am justifying the lofty price of SUN's stock. I just hope people would stop harping on how the Intel Microsoft will "ultimately" cause SUN's downfall. McNealy, Zander and Co are quite familiar with the threat and IMO have managed it quite well.

When you say SUN will eventually go the way HWP Dell CPQ, I was wondering if your crystal wall gave you a time table. A few years ago I had Twister predict to me that SUN was going the SGI way in 2-3 years.

Regards

Alok

SUNW will eventually go the way of the other box makers - IBM, Dell, CPQ etc. They will be a commodity seller of Intel based systems.

What is there a full moon tonight or something? Our bears are in some kind of a joke-telling contest today. Maybe it's just repressed rage over the stock shooting up today in the middle of a crummy market day? But first we get John D. comparing Sun to Iomega. Now Steve, you're making a prediction (with no date attached of course) that Sun will do the last thing it is ever likely to do. Sun is far more likely to go into the electronic Pokemon game business than it is to become a reseller of Wintel commodity junk. McNealy and Zander are fully aware that their company is in the enviable position of leadership that it's in because they were the only computer company smart enough to stand behind their own products and not get suckered into playing ball with Bill G. Are you somehow not aware that that stance has been, and as of today at least, continues to be, a huge winner for SUNW shareholders?

So in order to make your prescient statement complete, would you care to attach a time frame to that prediction?

And Steve: short some SUNW while the window's still open.
