I'm not sure, as there are very few solid dollars lying about. That is to say, never before has so much money been sloshing around in the dollar donominated equiteis in the US stock markets, while so few dollars invested in the insurance of precious metals.

Generally speaking, yes, if gold should zoom up to $800 or whatever, in all likelihood, that would mean that inflation would be back in force, if not RAGING!
However, there could be "special" circumstances involved in an extreme price move like that, one for example being a severe shortage of supply, which in and by itself would not reflect the true inflation rate or the value of the dollar..... Yogi
