I wonder if any of these "hackers" owned stock in the various internet security companies who posted double digit gains today...

Regards
Jay

Re: hackers to blame...

Frank, you must remember that piece of moronic legislation
passed making it illegal to "listen" on certain parts of
the 800 mHz band used for cell phone traffic. When it was
plain that the real problem was the stupidity of the analog
cellular system in putting subscribers conversations on
the air totally in the clear. This showed where the cell
phone operators placed their subscribers privacy, and what
contempt the government held them in, in trying to give
the belief that passing a law would be effective against
breakins when the door doesn't even have a lock on it.

In Europe the correct approach was taken - GSM is lightly
encrypted, and CDMA is also much more secure.

Of course, this is a false sense of security. Pimply faced
adolescents with gold chains around their necks won't be
listening with scanners, but the governments there broadly
wiretap as they see fit.

As for the holier than thou attitude at 2600... heh, right,
they're sorry for the disturbance. And I'm the king of England.
