Hi Alex:

Re your questions:

a) What makes broadband wireless attractive: while
fiber can deliver a huge amount of bandwidth at
onle point, broadband wireless can deliver a small
(``small' here is relative and can still go up to
100Mb/sec) amount of bandwidth anywhere, at a very
low deployment cost (particularly point to multipoint
technology). So broadband wireless is flexible
and cheap.

b) Key technological factors making BBFW technology
possible: progress in high frequency electronics
(gaAs etc) and DSP technology, transfer of research
on smart antennas done for DOD in the 80s to
the civilian sector, progress in modulation methods
(OFDM, UWB modulation), progress in error correction
(trellis coded modulation, turbo codes).

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
