TVs are more expensive here in Europe and we don't have 3000 square foot houses to put them in. Also, we have to pay for TV viewing with a licence fee of around $160 in the UK. Some people might be trying to escape the licence by hiding their TV in the computer with such a card.

I was commenting about RealPlayer earlier, which is a real alternative to normal TV and radio in that it gets the signals over the internet direct from the sources. No cable company to bitch at for not carrying a particular channel. I watch Bloomberg TV now, something I didn't have on cable or satellite, even in the states. All you need is a reasonably fast internet connection. I can get acceptable quality on my 56k dial-up here in London. Next month I'm getting ADSL and it should be even better.
