Jim - <I thought Intel did final packaging and testing at locations remote to the primary fab?>

You ever hear of databases and networks?

Pretty nifty infrastructure for gleaning raw information.

Re: "I thought Intel did final packaging and testing at locations remote to the primary fab?"

For all companies, data is collected at wafer sort that is a very good predictor of final test performance. For example an Fmax test done a cold temp at wafer sort will give a very good estimation of final top end speed. This information allows companies to predict availability of speed bins 4-6 weeks out in time. Probably to better than 95%.

BTW, many companies have their wafer sort facilities located at the fab site for quick feedback.
