Synbiotics Corp.'s W3Commerce Subsidiary Extends Internet Systems Offer, Adds Live Customer Service To Business-to-Business Client Sites
SAN DIEGO--(BW HealthWire)--Feb. 7, 2000--W3Commerce, www.w3commerce.com, the Internet systems and services subsidiary of Synbiotics Corp. (Nasdaq: SBIO), announced today that it has signed a "Heads of Agreement" with Whorl Ltd., www.whorl.co.uk, a privately-held, UK-based Internet systems developer.
Under the terms of the agreement, W3Commerce and Whorl will jointly develop an integrated suite of e-commerce enabling and tracking systems, while W3Commerce will market existing and new Whorl products to the American and Pacific Rim regions.
In addition to the marketing agreement, W3Commerce will provide infrastructure support for Xenode, Whorl's advanced messaging system, and add Xenode functionality to existing W3Commerce business-to-business sites. Xenode, which is slated for international rollout in the spring of this year, is designed to provide instant interactive communication between Internet users and customer service personnel. The system provides operators with a full range of customization options, allowing common tasks and question responses to be fully automated. Future developments will interface the system with the WAP standard, allowing Xenode technology to benefit users who browse the Web or place orders using mobile phones.
According to Gareth Lancaster, managing director of Whorl "Over the past year we have developed a very good working relationship with W3Commerce, supported and enhanced by our complementary skill sets. When we decided to look for a strategic partner to help build U.S. market penetration, W3Commerce, with its international presence and proven traffic-driving ability, was an obvious choice."
Colin Lucas-Mudd, W3Commerce president added, "Our experience over the past 2 1/2 years, while building our networks of integrated e-commerce sites, has demonstrated the critical importance of direct and instant user contact. Whorl's expertise in this area, combined with their long experience in the wider e-commerce system's marketplace, provides the ideal recipe for a successful alliance. We look forward to the integration of Xenode with our new generation of e-commerce sites during the current quarter and the full launch of the product in the spring."
W3Commerce specializes in vertical market information and e-commerce networks that develop direct channels for manufacturers to supply retail and business consumers. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Synbiotics Corp. Synbiotics Corp., www.synbiotics.com, is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of veterinary diagnostics, instrumentation and related animal health products. Synbiotics, W3Commerce's client, acquired W3Commerce in January 2000 and plans soon to change its name to W3 Inc.
With the exception of historical matters, the issues discussed in this press release are forward-looking statements that are subject to risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those anticipated in the forward-looking statements, including competition from larger companies, the need to demonstrate large-scale customer acceptance of W3Commerce's business model, the ability of other companies to replicate W3Commerce's business model, reliance on third-party manufacturers and distributors, possible technology improvements by others, Synbiotics' ability to assimilate acquired businesses, the seasonality of major portions of Synbiotics' business and other risks set forth in Synbiotics' filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, particularly Form 10-KSB filed for the year ended Dec. 31, 1998 and the Form 10-QSB filed for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1999. Actual results may differ materially from those projected. These forward-looking statements represent Synbiotics' judgment as of the date of the release. Synbiotics disclaims, however, any intent or obligation to update these forward-looking statements.
