I think this was merely an attempt to appeal to folk who haven't a clue as to the costs of business and basic economics-- unfortunately the majority. I think McCain knows what he is doing, and that this is yet another indicator of his dishonesty. I think he knows and accepts the logic behind the deductions, but also understands he will look compassionate to many if he can equate deductions of business costs to government funding of private products and services. He just does not want to appear too pro-business because to many, he would automatically appear a "rich-get-richer" Republican.
