Maybe the reason that Suzanne didn't return through the yard was that there was someone there that she was trying to avoid/evade? For example she may have felt that she was being followed, and yet not felt strongly enough to have mentioned it to either Peter or the police. She might have just decided to walk back on the street, under the street lights. THe yard looked unlighted/poorly lit in your pictures. When you talked with Peter did he mention Suzanne looking at all agitated or nervous, or did he noticed someone hanging around?

I did ask Peter whether she was walking slow, fast, or normal. He said normal, although obviously all those terms are subjective. If Suzanne were trying to avoid someone then it means someone was following her and she knew it. Where did he follow her from? Most probably from her apartment. Wouldn't, then, his car be back there? So how does he then get her back to his car three long blocks away? Let's also not forget she returned the keys to a police substation. If she did think she was being stalked, as you are proposing, she certainly had opportunities to tell people.

As for the lighting, it's much much better inside the old campus. I guess the photographs were deceiving. There are also many more people wandering around. I can see walking through Phelps Gate to avoid someone but not to evade someone. There's a big difference.

As for my previous stalker rendezvous, I was attempting to breathe life into one of your scenarios that you had dismissed as unlikely. We could equally dismiss almost any car scenario as being unlikely due to requiring a driver and a back seat stabber. Two people are much less likely to have kept this secret than one.

True. For whatever reason, the more people involved the more likely one will talk, be it to a friend, lover, or the police. The reason it appears no one has talked might simply be that there's been no reasonable effort by the police to seek out the right crowd of people. It's my opinion that police are downright afraid to broaden their search past one person. It would be like admitting they royally screwed up for more than a year.

I have one more question about Peter Stein: Just where does he live in relation to Phelps Gate? Within a 5-15 minute walk? He doesn't have all that long to get on the phone...

I don't know where he lived. However, if he was walking across the old campus it probably means he wasn't far away.
