TP,

I have a DSL connection and was told that as long as File Sharing was not turned on , no other computer can access my system. Is this correct ?

Hal

Re: Cable/DSL security

When I upgraded to an always-on cable modem I installed a personal firewall. The one I'm using is Conceal Private Desktop by Signal9 (see signal9.com for their website). Signal9 has just been purchased by McAfee. It's simplicity itself and at $49.95 is cheap peace of mind.

For those concerned about the security of their setup, check out grc.com for a quick checkup. For a more thorough analysis, hackerwhacker.com provides very comprehensive testing.
