Nortel Networks Unveils Internet And Networking Professional
Services For Carrier And Enterprise Customers

Nortel Networks announced a strategy to take an industry leadership position in
the professional services arena through the launch of Global Professional Services,
a single, worldwide organization to provide professional services to customers
enabling both carriers and enterprises to reap the benefits of the high-performance
Internet and next-generation networking.

The consolidated organization, which Nortel Networks plans to strengthen through
world-class consulting alliances, will offer industry-leading solutions to address
specific challenges and opportunities faced by customers as they transform current
networks and deploy next-generation networks for the delivery of advanced
Internet protocol (IP) services.

Nortel Networks' professional services capabilities were further boosted today
with the announcement of the acquisition of Dimension Enterprises, Inc., a
suburban Washington D.C. engineering and consulting firm for up to US$64.5
million. DEI is a recognized leader in designing and implementing Internet Data
Centers and brings experienced professional services capabilities to address the
booming Application Service Provider and Internet data center markets. DEI will
expand Nortel Networks' expertise in Internet security, IP networking, operational
support systems, enterprise application integration, and Internet data center design
and implementation.

"The Internet economy, eBusiness and new technologies are driving business
opportunities for our customers that require unprecedented speed to market for
success. Customers want and need guidance and services in these business areas
that take advantage of Nortel Networks' technology and networking expertise,"
said Kannankote Srikanth, president, Global Professional Services, Nortel
Networks. "We have taken a fresh approach to professional services and designed
a new services offering and portfolio of solutions based on what our customers
need to make them successful, not based on pre-packaged, rigid sales pitches."

According to Dataquest's Laura McLellan, vice president and chief analyst,
Worldwide Services, "Nortel Networks' approach to Professional Services directly
addresses users critical front-end consulting and design needs. This consultative,
customized, full life-cycle approach to designing and implementing network
solutions, is directly in line with our most recent research on buying behavior."

"In today's rapidly evolving economy, service providers as well as enterprise
customers are looking for help in planning, designing, integrating and managing their
increasingly complex network computing environments," said Richard Dean, senior
industry analyst for IDC. "Nortel's Global Professional Services practice is
designed to provide both service providers and enterprise customers with the depth
and breadth of services that can help provide the end-to-end solution these
customers are demanding."

The new Global Professional Services organization will offer solutions framed
around five practices that target customer challenges and opportunities: Internet
infrastructure services; network-enabled transformations; service-enabled solutions;
e-customer care; and managed network services. These global practices will
deliver professional services in focused customer segments and solution areas, such
as ASP, Internet data centers, network convergence and Optical Internet,
providing full life-cycle support and services to the customer. To deliver these
services, Nortel Networks has created a single, internal organization of 1,500
consultants and staff to ensure consistent practices, processes and effective
knowledge transfer. These global practices and competencies, with consulting
alliances, will complement Nortel Networks' industry-leading Global Customer
Care Services.

"Alliances are key to the successful development of the practices," added Srikanth.
"We plan to align with some of the world's most respected organizations and
consulting firms to strengthen our skill set and deliver related services. Our
customers expect end-to-end strategies, and no one company alone can deliver all
the competencies needed to ensure their success. We also will support our channel
partners with value-added solutions for their customers, offering the industry's
best-in-class, multi-vendor solutions."http://www.tmcnet.com/tmcnet/newsit/it1000740.htm
