The industry seems to be leaning towards EUV then X-RAY for next generation lithography.

Sematech is leaning towards EUV because of its higher throughput. Even though Scalpel has a lower mask cost, it probably will not be enough to offset a lower throughput.

Clarify, UTEK is in direct competition with ASML not SVGI.

UTEK and ASML produce steppers. SVGI produces step-and-scan lithography tools not steppers. The semiconductor industry is moving to step-and-scan lithography tools and away from steppers.

AV,to avoid your comment, ASML also produces step-and-scan lithography tools.

ASML received its funding help from Philips Electronics

Well, that's a little different from Sematech, don't you think? Sematech was, until very recently, about 50% government protectionist dole. Philips is private industry, with a good business reason to fund ASML--they own a minority stake.

However, I agree with the point that it doesn't really matter where the funding comes from, so long as the stock does well. :p
