One factor in the low oil price a year ago that I never hear mentioned is the fact that the governments of Indonesia, Venezuela, and Russia must have been desperate to sell as much oil as possible to bail themselves out of their financial crises. These countries were widely accused of dumping at the time, but the point I have never heard made is that this was a one-time thing caused by their situation then. It's like if you're starving, you'll sell your house for a loaf of bread. You know it's not in your interest in the long run, but you do it anyway. That's why there was the danger of five dollar oil. What do you guys think, am I out to lunch on this one or what?
