No analyst is held accountable for their predictions. I remember sometime last year, one of the analyst ( i forget the brokerage house, maybe lehman or prudential) proclaimed that Xerox was the "single best idea for the new millenium" when it was trading in the 60's. Well we all know what happened to this idea, don't we :-)

Except for a very small number of them, most analysts are pimps for the brokerage house client positions. I also believe that once big long positions are taken by brokerage houses and their funds in a specific stock, unless the bottom falls out due to the company coming out and admitting their poor performance, most bad news will be ignored and every piece of news will be spun to be beneficial to the company. Obviously the company and insiders play along and enjoy the ride during this whole charade and some suckers finally hold the bag when the "single best idea" turns into a nightmare.
