Thanx Scumbria, So do you believe K8 is a necessary step to advance to K9? or do you think K9 won't use any of the new Instructions AMD mentioned K8 using.

Scumbria,

I am surprised you think AMD's x86-64 will not fly. Is this an issue with the approach or because it is the K6 team working on it?

As far as the approach, why should it be any less successful than the 16->32 migration? And if IBM are predicting 3.3GHz using separate clock domains why should it not be possible to get a really fast x86-64 chip by applying this technique?
