as i've written before, at my age a long term investment is a bunch of unripe bananas.

I'm sceptical about technical analysis. Ive read that the business schools say that it is just shy of astrology.

When volume dries up, meaning sellers are scarce, you could possibly just be starting a long run of low activity where there are no sellers, but no buyers as well.

What indicator tells you the length of the period of low activity?

The basic complaint about TA is that it relies on dumb mathematical tools to look for patterns and trends, but doesn't do the most important desired operation: predicting the future move based on past. There is no mathematical basis for that (random walk theory).

Your reply is very welcome, but please dont say: it works because I made a lot of money last year. There is a complex combination of incidental market knowledge and fundamental infomation we pick up that could be the reason for success, yet we give credit to the TA.
