Hi edamo. I think Dell will continue with it's fast follower strategy probably for at least another year. I don't think they currently have the corporate culture to be terribly innovative from a product standpoint right now.

I would like to see them become more innovative... and now might be a good time to take a few risks... but I don't see it happening in the product space.. maybe in the 'deal' space.

But, I'm still a fan of the fast follower method provided one can execute flawlessly. A major product distaster like RAMBUS and Zero growth will kill a stock price. Betting an entire development cycle on a technically challenging and risky technology with no contingency plans is not anywhere near flawless execution.

So to answer your question directly, Dell has indeed hit a strategic inflection point and it's time for them to re-engineer their strategy a bit. Innovation and perception
management among other things should be part of this new strategy.
