I can't believe anyone would suggest DELL is "under-promising" here, As far as I can tell, they are still setting expectations too high. The real problem seems to be that even top DELL management can not believe that they needed to start a serious business transition a year ago, and are now behind the curve. Looking at the earnings estimates, how do you imagine that DELL will create the 3Q and 4Q earnings? Look at the historical patterns, look at the pressure this year on desktop margins...

No new products in the desktop line. Products that are over extended from a life cycle perspective recieve margin pressure.
