Here's the NR: How long till we see 2 bucks again? My guess is we will see 1 before 2. But what do I know. Kasten Chase pursues new focus for wireless technology in Internet access and data securitynewswire.ca TORONTO, Feb. 10 /CNW/ - Kasten Chase (TSE-KCA) today announced its intention to refocus its wireless networking technology on its core business initiatives in the areas of Internet access and data security. Concurrently, Springboard Wireless Networks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kasten Chase, announced that it plans to license its wireless Data Communications System (DCS) for Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) to all interested rail industry equipment suppliers involved in providing CBTC systems and/or related products and services to the rail and transit sector. ''Our leading edge wireless devices with fully integrated IP (Internet Protocol) routing capabilities over fibre optic backbone networks have great applicability for Internet access and data delivery,'' said Terry Kulka, president and chief executive officer at Springboard. ''We can no longer focus our investment in wireless capabilities solely on the rail and transit sector given the unique strengths and universal attributes underlying our wireless technology.'' By moving its existing and anticipated business relationships with organizations in the rail and transit sector principally to technology licensing agreements, the company will reduce its overheads in this particular market sector while realizing a more immediate return on its investment through the sale of licenses. ''Uncertainties surrounding the timing and final definition of our role in the deployment of New York City Transit's (NYCT) CBTC system have been frustrating to say the least. We had expected to be well underway with the New York City project by this point in time,'' noted Mr. Kulka. ''Clearly, the opportunity to apply our wireless technology and capabilities in new and rapidly growing market sectors where we are well positioned for success exists now. We intend to move quickly to capitalize on the multitude of applications for this highly innovative technology.'' The technology license being offered by Springboard Wireless will include all technologies used in the Culver Demonstration. The company has offered license agreements to all three existing participants in the New York City project in addition to a range of other industry players. ''This focus on licensing Springboard's DCS technology to interested third parties within the rail and transit sectors will dramatically lower any future investment requirements in this market sector for rail and transit specific applications while still allowing us to potentially reap the rewards of our historical investment,'' added Paul Hyde, president and chief executive officer at Kasten Chase. ''As a result, Kasten Chase can direct more of its energy and resources into incorporating its advanced wireless technology in the areas of Internet access and data security.''
