James,
Who would be most upset by ALA acquiring NN?
Would that bring them to the table as a buyer?

Number one is Siemens, which can only pay in cash and Siemens margeing
with NN would mean lots of engineer leaving.
However,Siemens cash offer may push final price with ALA up.
I am not sure NT would like to have ALA on his backyard.
NT LMDS is not doing to mauch. You could see it by listening to CEO
of NT on the last CC.
He could only say about Teligent, which they finance all the way, where NN has well over 1 bil US in booked orders and 65 trials and 19 wins.NN took 800 million Cd MaxLink from NT on his backyard.
NT ATM switches are not true core or edge, where 36170(12.8gig) and SRP670(50/450) are. They have probles when overloaded.
I have never seen NT wining core ATM contract like Global One,France Telecom,SBC COMM.,Cable & Wireless,BT etc.
NT is wining mainly in access space.

Now 3dsl(TV,Video,multiple phome line,voice).
When NT announced purchase of startup for 1 bill. with few trials win, 24 million $ the bigest(acc. to CC) NN was already suppling to
150 million BP contract with Kingsom, 200 millio US with New Edge and
recently NN confirmed up to 200 million with Irish Telecom.
Well, make you own conclusion.
Despite CEO of NT statement that NT is not interested in NN b/c to much overlap, I do not think it is the case.

ERICY beside LMDS, which did not win any meaningful contracts(ERICY enter this space much later) there is not overlap with NN.

Finally ALA.
With ALA 50% market shares in ADSL(they DSLAM can not performed TV,Video)and NN's 3dsl + ATM platform required for ADSL(both companies
are major supplier to 6 billion Pronto Project)
ALA/NN would dominate ADSL space.
ALA has not ATM.
ALA has 30 trials in LMDS space, but they just entered this space and have no any significant wins.
ALA got its LMDS from Stanford, which now is part of NN!!!.

I think ERICY and ALA are best fits.
The question is, will NT be happy.
ERICY or ALA/NN will stabilized NN staff and where NT will get its
new blood.
Both ALA and ERICY have several billion $ in cash needed for emarging
carrier financing.

Zbyslaw
