So even if the user id is protected

the user cannot be protected against him/her self. By downloading an executable or a bad Active-X component you can get into trouble.

Okay so what this tells me is that the user cannot be educated into some kind of behavior that thwarts such attacks. Who knows even what is being downloaded anymore!

The current situation on the Net can be understood by looking at the behavior of AOL. They take control of your computer away from you. The user doesn't have a clue about what is happening to his system. This is the state of affairs that they want to exist on the Net. To remove instant messenger I had to edit the registry. They didn't give me one tool to prevent the program from loading at startup. So it is only a small step to anybody loading anything without my permission or even knowledge.

I guess we will have to wait for the attack that I predicted some time ago. The kind where accounts are taken over at a major financial institution and they bring down the stock market.
