It does have the advantage that you can't download programs to it and "run them" in the sense that you could on Unix or NT. So, it is not vulnerable to trojan horses, worms etc. NetApp might have a further advantage over EMC because EMC has an API (Application Programming Interface) that it exports to client OS's. Wouldn't that interface allow a compromised client OS (Unix or NT) the ability to write all over the data and file system meta-data? I haven't had experience with EMC's API, maybe someone familiar with it can comment.
