With fewer and fewer stocks proping up the index, I wonder if the individual stocks are even necessary. We have the technology to create a virtual index which people could invest in which isn't tied to any stock that way the individual stocks could go down if they want to BUT the index would still go up.

They would trade like Spyders, maybe they could call them Roaches with no inherent value whatsoever but for the super growth investor.
