It's difficult to find one set of metrics that addresses the whole tech sector, but in specific, we're looking for fast growing markets and the participants who control the standards due to patents, partnerships, and market share. There are also major nuance differences in the types of gorilla dominance There has to be. The "lock" that Intel has on X86 processor sector is much stronger than the control that Siebel will have over the CRM sector. We call the former Enabling Gorillas, and the latter Software Gorillas to distinguish their power and probable duration of leadership. there is no accounting for exchange marketplaces because they are transactional in nature rather than technological and the dozens of different types of enterprise software businesses emerging. You probably read the first edition of the Gorilla Game. In the recently published version they introduce the concept of the Godzilla Game to provide metrics for ecommerce companies, including b:c and b:b. All in all it's a decent read for individual investors, and tech industry people. I've given out a few copies. I hope they prosper from it, and you as well. uf
