Joe, The reality is that anyone with enough stock-picking ability could quickly reach $25K without margin, starting from $2K. The proposal doesn't say you have to "use" margin. It just says that to daytrade in a margin account you have to have equity of $25,000. There is a very real possibility that in a cash account daytrading is "illegal", even though some brokers let you do it. I would not be surprised if this practice were soon eliminated. So without $25,000 you would not be able to sell anything the day you buy it, and believe me that is a serious limitation for anyone thinking they will grow a portfolio quickly. Perhaps you would like to post the picks that would allow me to quickly increase my portfolio by 1250%, with or without margin. Dan
