Hi cheryl,

Your argument is internally inconsistent. If companies saw the light to Linux, then since it doesn't require special hardware, there would be no postponement of purchasing that Michael is observing.

And by the way, speaking of truth, how's that open Java you were telling us about coming? :)))

Cheryl,

You're going to have to face the distinct possibility,
John, that MD (Michael Dell) just may be telling the TRUTH.

Nothing could be scarier than that, that a business titan
speaks his or her mind. And, I am not trying to act cute
here. It will be scary as hell if businesspeople started
speaking the truth in public. They may as well walk naked.

Doesn't Dell own some piece of Linux stuff ? Hasn't DELL.O
stock been an underperformer for a while ? Don't you think
he is under some kind of stress ? May be he is angling for
some break here.

Different subject. I doubt if you've stress tested a
Solaris. They all got bugs. Tons and tons of them. Also, as
you no doubt know, Sun didn't invent Unix, TCPIP, HTTP,
Sockets, any of this. Folks don't want NFS on their service
machines because its buggy. It did invent a lot of marketing
(Oh, yes, I have owned SUNW from time to time.)

Dinesh
