My wife retired today and Monday is Valentine's day. I bought her a beautiful Moissanite ring tonight. Moissanite (mfgd from gems made by Cree) are absolutely gorgeous, more beautiful than diamonds at about 10% the cost. Discontinuous innovation?

Si vs SiC: GaN on Si is extremely difficult....and would violate Cree's process patents. If someone can do it and it works, they will collect royalties...Cree has said they are indifferent to the outcome as they win either way.

Cree has not trumpeted their IP protection because no one has come close to damaging them economically. Their gorilla status is protected, however, from known LED solutions other than sapphire which is inferior.
