Ram, Holy Smokes, "The Grass Valley (California) District..." Looks like fun, haven't had that much fun since Busted Creek, I mean Brush Creek, VBG. Check out the 16 to 1 mine in same general area, they will give you the straight scoop, they're good folks I've heard. Best of luck, Roebear

I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for about a decade, and have visited just about every historic site and mine site along Highway 49. The residents seem to like just enough mining, usually placer and small dredge, to attract the tourists to the gifts shops, tours, hotels, musuems, etc. I think a real mining operation would be a little too much for the locals to handle. You might enjoy the Empire Mine State Historic Park Page: parks.ca.gov It is in the same general area as the Idaho-Maryland, and was once owned by Newmont (acquired in 1929, and kept Newmont solvent during the Depression) Also, I collect a lot of old mining stuff, so I have photos of the Idaho headframe in the 1930s, the New Brunswick Mine in 1955, along with about a 15 page written history of the Idaho-Maryland ( with photos, including the Grass Vally Cornish Carol Choir singing on the 2000 level of the Idaho-Maryland on Christmas Day 1940) If you want a copy of the history, send me a mailing address via private mail, and I will send it to you.
