I don't think it'll kill them necessarily, but I do see what you're saying. I think it's just the pains of micromanaging a fast-moving market. Maybe it's necessary, but it sure isn't easy.

I think Timna WILL completely replace Celeron, and in fact, I think the transition will occur fairly rapidly once Timna is released. This has been Intel's intent all along.

By the end of 2000, Pentium III should be moved down to the mid-range value segment (the sweet spots, if you may), while Pentium IV (possible name for Willamette) will become Intel's new flagship premium brand. It's obvious that the days of Pentium III as a high-end processor are numbered.
