Are these randomly distributed bugs? I am thinking I got at least 52,000 of them! They say that WIN 3.1 had 1000 serious bugs and SCO Unix had 1000 serious bugs/errors. All subsequent fixes of Windows had the same number of bugs only different ones. There were one million lines of Code in MS Win 3.1 and that would translate into a linearly projected 40,000 bugs for Win 2000 which is 40 times larger than WIN 3.1 Linux is 1 million lines in the kernel but is many times larger when you factor in the programs commands and tools that come with it. As well there are many mature programs that windows does not include and language functionality and network tools that Windows had to ape to keep up. for the size of Linux at large there are an acceptable number of bugs :) Sometimes I think I would like more. There are even roaches. BUGS are here to stay. If you are a software customer you are a life time customer. Just as you fix a car for wear and tear, you have to upgrade and bug fix software. So far no Software safety directives from the Federal Board of Sofware and Data Transportation.
