RE: "This person (Cheryl Williamson) has a point...SOLUTION "

Hi Tenchusatsu,

Yes, that's why I did not include her point about solutions.

RE: "The good news is that Intel knows... you'll have several companies providing customized solutions for different customers. Some customers will want to go with a trusted vendor like Compaq. Some will go with cookie-cutters like Dell. Some will need heavy-duty stuff coming from IBM....If the Xeon platform is gaining popularity vs. Sun, guess what happens when the Itanium platform gets established in a year or two and starts following the same path to success as Xeon?"

Excellent post.

Best,
Amy J

Tenchusatsu and Amy, I wrote the post that started the Sun comeback from Cheryl (who makes damn strong arguments), on the Microsoft thread by the way, not Sun. My point was that it was like a who's who in computer hardware and software companies lining up with Itanium, whereas Sun seemed all by themselves, except maybe with Oracle. It seems like huge odds against Sun, by sheer numbers, which, I know, don't tell the whole story. Still, like that expression says, '50 million Frenchman can't be wrong.'
