Besides names such as the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Dept. of Transportation and Exxon, which speak for themselves, there are several other points that pique my interest: (1) The test is being done aboard a U.S. DOT research vessel. The DOT is involved in the actual testing? Perfect! Are they looking at mandating wide implementation of the Sea Patch perhaps? That would have incredible effects for TEXN. (2) The pedigree of the Sea Patch is rock solid. Developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (one of the premier research facilities in the world), it is patent-protected and has received American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certification. Because the Sea Patch is unique and protected by patent, TEXN will have a monopoly on the device. A monopoly on a device that might see widespread use? hehehehehehe. (3) Exxon is on the list of attendants. I would like to draw attention to a TEXN press release issued on August 31, 1999: "TEXN today announced that the Sea Patch has completed extensive testing by a major oil company. After weeks of testing, the sea patch has outperformed all previous expectations. It has been tested against a variety of surfaces, including scale, welds and uneven plates and has performed above all expectations." I speculate now that the "major oil company" in all likelihood was Exxon. If true, why is Exxon going to the demonstration next week? Surely, it must have tested the device already to its satisfaction as indicated in the PR, and with ABS certification, it would have no problems getting insurance carriers to go along with the purchase of the device. My feeling -- and it's just that -- is that Exxon will use the opportunity of having the Sea Patch in the limelight to announce some purchases. It makes sense to do so in front of government and environmental groups to show Exxon's commitment to protecting the environment. Anyway....just some ideas...but I think the best is yet to come for this stock. I'm holding my shares as tight as can be.
