PB - RE: "However, after I saw that the news was good, and with trading halted, and the noon hour coming up with a lunch date pending, I went ahead and placed a market order for a block of AMD, and went to lunch. In at 43.5."

According to Paul, you are a "sucker".

According to the rest of us - hope it is a good trade, most of us are betting it is.

"Will be watching this very carefully."

Unfortunately, with AMD this NEEDS to be done. Practically on a day to day basis. But fortunately, compared to last year, good news is coming out as often as bad news was last year.

However, after I saw that the news was good, and with trading halted, and the noon hour coming up with a lunch date pending, I went ahead and placed a market order for a block of AMD, and went to lunch. In at 43.5. Will be watching this very carefully. I am betting both AMD and Intel should both do well in tandem at least for the first part of the year. (Did not sell ANY INTC).

PB, congrats.....its nice to see that you did not let ideological loyalties get in the way of making some $.

PB -

Re: "I believe it was Revenue guidance, not income guidance"

I also noticed this. While increased revenues are certainly good, it is not always safe to assume that they will lead to increased bottom-line profits.

If AMD's incremental sales came out of their abnormally high inventory, and the inventory was carried at or near cost, then their sale may not result in any increase in earnings at all. This is entirely possible, since the inventories were produced late last year when the ramp was young, and their most recent valuation is as of the December balance sheet.

I'd be cautious about reading too much into this announcement at this point. Good luck with your AMD purchase!

Aaron

PB, <I went ahead and placed a market order for a block of AMD>

I have been constrained from buying more AMD by the threat of IDF and what might be demoed there. You probably have a better idea and yet choose not to wait until after IDF. An interesting/significant decision IMO.
