kas,

Filer OS upgrades can be done remotely. Due to the distributed nature of NTAP support, they often are. I am aware of a situation where gov. security prevented network access(outside) to the filer, thus complicating the upgrade. Due to the concept of NAS, I suspect there are very sophisticated methods of controlling access to the filer OS. Also, how would a hacker obtain information on the filer OS, which is a single purpose OS and surely not available in the public domain.

Interesting idea, though. I'll check into any comments you have about how this could be done.
