Sr K -
As many on this and other threads know, I have a number of friends who work at MSFT. They are not necessarily the "big boys" but they have been an accurate barometer of MSFT opinion in the past.

Your statement I doubt if MSFT thinks MSD's comments were out of line
is the opposite of the feedback I have gotten since MSD's comments. Without exception, everyone I have spoken to at MSFT regards MSD's comments as a betrayal of trust and a slam at MSFT only days before he will give a keynote at the launch event.

From the MSFT perspective, as expressed by these guys, MSD was clearly choosing sides in the Linux-NT struggle, and he did not choose MSFT. Linux may not be a contender for enterprise apps yet but it is clearly taking a big share of the web server market.

I don't know what MSD was up to - I'm sure he did not make these statements by accident, so there must be some reason. But I suspect he has soured the perception of DELL at MSFT - certainly with the rank and file.
