Hi Coots:

...NTAP's OS is built from scratch. It is very specialized code designed to perform one function very fast.

Dollars to doughnuts, bet you the Filer OS has a normally functioning TCP/IP stack with ICMP, plus a SNMP agent and Telnet service for remote admin. Probably FTP service too for the firmware downloads, plus maybe a time service.

Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of NFS lock daemons? <g>

Any bets on the SNMP agent password being 'public' at at least half of the NTAP installations? <g>

Just a guess, I've never had a date with a Filer.
