Come on Coots...

Making blanket statements isn't going to support Willies contention.
I was restricting my argument to the wireless/cellular area, but if you want to broaden it....
A few new examples

1. Vodaphone-Airtouch-Manessman
2. BP-AMOCO (soon to include Atlantic Richfield - maybe)
3. Daimler-Chrysler

The senior 'partner' in each of these combines is European.

Establishing a standard in technology means dominance. GSM should have it. For 2G it does.

So you agree with me. 3G is several years away. I appreciate they are trialing 3G systems now, but GSM was trialing in 1989. It took
6 years to roll out from trials that were far more extensive than the 3G trials taking place now.

3G will in any case adopt the GSM network. Only the air interface will change. QCOM is well positioned here, but others are going to contest their ground, IDC (who are working with NOK) for example.

GSM, IMHO, is the primo example of a de facto mandated standard which didn't measure up in the market.
Thats nonsense, and contradicts your earlier statement, Establishing a standard in technology means dominance. GSM should have it. For 2G it does.

Based on my experience traveling and doing business in Europe, the GSM experience was not indicative of their prowess.
What do you mean? Personally, I was impressed that I could purchase a SIM in London and I make calls in Milan.

I would expect Japan and Korea to take over the handset market. JMHO.
You agree with me again.
