Haven't seen any that you mentioned but did see Topsy Turvy last night and it was a delight. It starts out slowly and by the end, you want it to continue on and on. Great direction and acting. I never was informed much about Gilbert and Sullivan other than knowing some of the titles of their operettas and now I feel compelled to see as much of their work as I can access. Myron

I saw Election, American History X, and The Harmonists this weekend. All were good, but the truly exceptional entry was The Harmonists, about a male quintet (plus accompaniast) that became immensely famous in Germany in the late 20s, famous enough even outside of Germany to be invited to New York to perform. Three of the members were Jewish, including the founder, and it shows how they survive in Germany as the Nazis come to power, and finally are forced to disband. The Jews among them escape. It is a sensitively portrayed, touching movie, and although the members survived, in a funny way it shows the sincerity and virulence of the Nazis anti- semitism: in the end, only people who really meant those awful, racist things would have been incapable of making exceptions of The Harmonists....
