I think it is important when we quote to consider the source. An idea is not responsible for the person who expresses it. To know that the author was a person of his own times and people is sometimes important. While it is important that we learn and understand more about Jefferson, especially that he had a mulatto concubine and treated his children not as well as we might have preferred, I think that many of his words outshine some of his acts.
