Wallace - my concern about the cyclics you mention is that they are adding debt. In particular CTB has flipped its debt/equity ratio.

Wallace, I do not see a MO spinoff strategy as having any chance of success, so why bother. Their ownership interests in these subs should be available to meet all liabilities, including legal ones, just like any other assets.

Either the last time Cummins (CUM) was about at its current price, or the time before last, I dismissed Jim Clarke's recommendation of it. I was wrong. (both times)

I don't see where Cummins now is a much different - better or worse - business than it was at either of those times. A cyclical company that seems to plod on.

At $28+, I'd be interested in playing the cycle.

Anyone here looking at CUM now with an opinion on it?

Speaking of the old, old, real-old economy stocks, I'm considering adding to my position in GT (Goodyear) if it hits new lows. Any of you guys looking at that one?
