Why retail on internet is not understood?

Retail is the demand side economy. Internet website, direct mailing catalog sales and call centers are conveniences in place of window shopping. Customers do not necessarily intertwine.

The big mistake of the new Wal-mart.com was the naivety of the internet marketing understanding. They thought that 90 million customers of Wal-mart stores will visit the web site and create a great market from scratch. Well, nothing like that happened. What happened was a dismal showing of 250,000 to 351,000 audience drew to the new Wal-mart.com site. How anyone can neglect the marketing strategy of any business, and just imagine everyone will automatically move to internet purchasing is bordered on lack of business management experience.

Amazon.com was heavily advertised on internet. Now they added TV and cable advertisements. They will also have to saturate the printed media as well, in order to do a good job to bring customers in to their web site. Who says all you have to do is put up a web site and get on the search engines? They just don't work until you use the standard market and sales techniques.

Retailing is still the same, restocking and warehousing. Internet web sites are just virtual catalog houses in need of a delivery system. Catalog sales and TV home shopping networks all have appeals to a consumer. We had to have choices. None of them are magical, just plain business in a marketing strategy.
